Hi, I'm Kurt.
40+ years in IT.
Still building.
I spent my career fixing, securing and supporting other people's technology. Now, with AI at my side, I build my own — the tools I always wished existed.

The long road
Every step taught me something I still use today — most of all, that it's really about the people you're helping.
PC builds & repair
Building machines, diagnosing what's wrong, and fixing it — hands on the hardware.
Data center
Racking, installing and updating servers — keeping the lights on behind the scenes.
Help desk
Learning that the best tech is the kind people don't have to call about.
IT security
Thinking about what could go wrong before it does.
Identity & Access Management
Making sure the right people have the right access — no more, no less.
AI-assisted developer
Turning ideas into real, working software.

How AI changed things
For most of my career, if I wanted a tool that didn't exist, I had to live without it. I knew exactly what I needed — I just couldn't write the code to make it happen.
Through all of it, the part I've enjoyed most is the people. I've always been customer-focused — I like helping folks, listening to what they really need, and making sure they walk away better off than they came in. That's still what drives every tool I build.
AI changed that. Today I work as an AI-assisted developer (some folks call it "vibe coding"). I dream up the idea, describe it in plain English, and work with Claude to design and build it. Then I do what 40-plus years of IT taught me to do best: test it, try to break it, and test it again until it's right.
The result? Apps my team relies on every single day, and MiBudget, a budgeting app built around how my family actually gets paid. At 57, I'm learning faster than I have in years — and having more fun doing it.
Life off the keyboard
Married 35 years to my high school sweetheart. Three kids, four grandkids, and living the best life I can in Southwest Michigan.
Maker at heart
When I'm not building software, I'm usually building something you can hold.

3D printing
Designing and printing parts, gadgets and gifts on a Bambu Lab X1 Carbon.
Laser engraving
Engraving wood, leather, metal and more with an xTool F1 Ultra.
Crafting
Putting it all together into one-of-a-kind pieces. Next up: printing on apparel with an xTool apparel printer.

One last thing, for anyone wondering if it's too early or too late to start something new: it isn't. I picked up programming in my late fifties, one small step at a time. Stay curious, keep at it, and don't count your dreams out.

If I can do this, so can you. Here's how I'd get started.
